Homecoming 2008

Welcome to the web pages of the Alvin, Texas Church of the Nazarene.

Alvin Nazarene is a Protestant, evangelical church. We believe in the virgin birth, that Jesus died for our sins and was raised to life on the third day. We believe our sins can be forgiven and that we can be enabled to live a clean life before God. We believe the Lord can make a difference in every life!

Our worship is informal. Dress is generally "smart casual." We pride ourselves in making visitors feel welcome. Come and visit…our church can be your home!

As a Christian community, our vision is to build bridges:
  • Between God and people
  • To One Another
  • To Our World
Church of the NazareneIn our church family we have many stories of how God reached out to us, not once, but repeatedly. With that in mind, we see our mission as one of sharing God's grace with people who want another chance with God. We believe God is already at work in many lives, causing people to hunger for himself, graciously extending forgiveness and hope to them. Having experienced that grace ourselves, we now work with God in offering this invitation of hope. If you are hungry for God in your life, if you need a second chance, we want you to know that you will find a warm welcome, and more than that, real hope at Alvin Church of the Nazarene, a church of second chances.

Our parsonage couple is Pastor Scott and Jackie Cundiff. Pastor Scott has been here at Alvin Church of the Nazarene since September of 1999. You can listen to many of his Sunday morning sermons at Sermon Pod Cast, in fact, you can even subscribe to them there. Pastor Scott also writes a daily devotional called: Daily Devotional Writing from Pastor Scott. Those devotionals are archived by book of the Bible on his web site: PastorScott.com. He also maintains General Writing from Pastor Scott as a place for occasional thoughts and comments. Our pastor is co-host of a radio program called Classic Gospel Southern Style. He and Ellis Manly present a weekly two hour program of great southern gospel from years gone by that is aired on a few stations around the country. Pastor Scott is a DJ at KJIC, the Gospel Music Radio station for the Houston/Galveston area. He is on the air on Sunday afternoons and overnight there.

Homecoming 2008

Our annual homecoming on May 4th was a great success.  Thanks to our special speaker, Pastor Arlie Kyzer; our guest singers, New Psalms; and all those who cleaned, decorated, brought food, and worked to hard to make it a wonderful day!

Remodeling

We now have new seating in the sanctuary and many have commented on how nice it looks and how comfortable it is. We are now moving toward new carpeting for the sanctuary, and later on for the hallways and classrooms. Thanks to all those who are involved in this project.

Also, we are working on outdoor lighting for the sidewalks and parking lot, and to replacing our sign along the street with one that displays messages using LED lights. We hope to move forward on this as the money is available.

Note this

-Mark your calendar: VBS is July 28-August 1 at 6:30 each evening. Monthly planning meetings are already underway – and your help is needed!

-Need a mid-week lift? We have Bible Study and prayer each Wednesday evening at 7:00. Come and join us.

-Our Ladies’ ministries group, Secret Pals meets the fourth Sunday night of each month at 6:00. All ladies are welcome to attend.

-Pastor Scott’s extended vacation (Sabbatical) is May 5-June 5. Henry Mills will fill the pulpit 3 of the Sundays will Don Irwin preaching one week. The sabbatical committee is Viola Crouch, Steve Rogge, and Ron Corwin. Plans are already in place to care for other pastoral duties while our pastor is away.
